Why Westio needs to verify you
KYC stands for “know your customer”. Every UK-licensed casino must confirm that each player is over 18, is who they say they are, lives where they say they live and is using their own money. Westio is no exception.
The rules are strict: age and identity must be verified before any play, including free-to-play demo games. For many players this happens automatically at sign-up, using the name, date of birth and address you enter during Westio registration. If the automatic check can’t confirm everything, Westio will ask you to upload documents.
You’ll also be asked to verify (or re-verify) at other points: your first withdrawal, when a document expires, when you change your address, or when your deposits reach levels that trigger an affordability check.

Which documents Westio accepts
| Check | Accepted documents | Key rules |
|---|---|---|
| Photo ID | Passport, UK driving licence (photocard), national ID card | Must be in date; all four corners visible |
| Proof of address | Utility bill, council tax bill, bank statement | Dated within the last 3 months; name and address match your account |
| Proof of payment | Debit card photo, e-wallet account screenshot | Cover the middle 8 digits of the card number; name visible |
| Source of funds / affordability | Payslips, bank statements, P60 | Only when requested; full pages, not extracts |
A few points that catch people out:
- Mobile phone bills and screenshots of online banking apps are often not accepted as proof of address – a downloaded PDF statement usually is.
- The address must match the one on your Westio profile exactly. If you’ve moved, update your profile first.
- Card photos: show the first 6 and last 4 digits and your name; cover the middle 8 digits. Never send the CVV on the back.
How to photograph documents so they pass first time
Most rejections are about image quality, not the document itself. Follow these rules:
- Use daylight or a bright, even light. Avoid a flash directly on laminated cards – it causes glare.
- Lay the document flat on a dark, plain surface.
- Get all four corners in the frame. Cropped edges are an automatic rejection.
- Hold the phone directly above, not at an angle.
- Check it’s sharp. Zoom in on the photo before uploading – every letter should be readable.
- Upload the full page of bills and statements, including the header with the issuer’s logo.
- Use JPG, PNG or PDF. Don’t edit, filter or annotate the image (other than covering card digits).
✓Verify the day you register
Upload your ID and proof of address straight after signing up. That way your first Westio withdrawal goes through at normal speed rather than waiting 24–48 hours for documents to be reviewed.Upload steps
- Log in to your Westio account on desktop or mobile.
- Open Account → Verification. Each check shows its status: not started, pending, approved or rejected.
- Choose the document type for the check you’re completing.
- Upload a photo or file – on mobile you can take the photo directly from the camera.
- Submit and wait for the status to change to pending.
- Watch your email for the result, usually within 24–48 hours.
If the upload button won’t work, try another browser, clear your cache, or attach the files to an email ticket via the Help Centre contact form and mention your account email.
Review times
Westio usually reviews documents within 24–48 hours. Reviews can take longer at weekends, during busy sporting events or when source of funds documents need a closer look. If 48 hours pass with no update, ask live chat to check the queue – but avoid re-uploading the same document repeatedly, as that can push you back in line.
Why documents get rejected
| Rejection reason | Fix |
|---|---|
| Blurry, dark or glare | Re-shoot in daylight without flash |
| Edges cropped | Step back so all four corners are in frame |
| ID expired | Upload a different, in-date ID |
| Proof of address older than 3 months | Download a recent statement or bill |
| Name or address doesn’t match | Update your profile or use a matching document |
| Screenshot instead of document | Upload the PDF or a photo of the paper version |
| Card digits fully visible or fully covered | Cover only the middle 8 digits |
If you’re rejected twice and aren’t sure why, ask live chat for the exact reason before trying again.
Source of funds and affordability checks
UK rules require casinos to check that gambling is affordable for each player, especially as spending rises. Westio may ask where your money comes from – usually salary, savings, a pension, an inheritance or the sale of an asset.
Typical requests include your last three payslips, recent bank statements or a P60. While the check is open, withdrawals and sometimes deposits are paused. These checks are about protecting players, not accusing anyone. If the request feels intrusive, it may help to remember that its purpose is to spot when spending has drifted beyond what someone can afford.
If you’re unsure whether your own spending is affordable, our responsible gambling page includes tools and free support, including the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133.
When you’ll be asked to verify again
Passing verification once doesn’t always mean you’re done for good. Expect a request for fresh documents when:
- your photo ID expires – keep an eye on your passport or driving licence renewal date;
- you move house – update your profile, then upload a new proof of address dated within 3 months;
- you add a new payment method – a fresh card or e-wallet may need proof that it’s yours;
- your name changes, for example after marriage – upload the new ID and, if asked, the supporting certificate;
- your deposits rise significantly – this can trigger a source of funds or affordability review.
Dealing with these promptly keeps withdrawals moving and avoids a restriction landing on your account at an awkward moment.
Is your data safe?
UK-licensed operators must handle your personal data under UK GDPR and keep it secure. UK-facing casinos must hold a UK Gambling Commission licence – check the licence details in Westio’s site footer against the Commission’s public register before you deposit. Westio’s privacy policy, linked in its footer, explains how long documents are kept.
To protect yourself:
- Upload only through Account → Verification or the Help Centre contact form.
- Never send documents via social media messages, WhatsApp or an email address you found elsewhere.
- Cover the middle 8 digits of any card and never share your CVV or online banking password.
Our own privacy policy explains that thewestio.co.uk never asks for or stores your documents – we’re an independent guide, not the casino.
